I waited till the last minute this year. I normally get to my mail in ballot ahead of time. I sit down with my voters pamphlet and read it stem to stern. I just seem to have lost track of time this round. I know it's only the primary but I'm a bit of a political junkie.
I already knew who I'd vote for in the big races, Governor etc. but hadn't paid much attention to some of the minor races. I did read the pros & cons on those candidates and made some selections on that basis, but sometimes the candidates are so closely aligned with my politics it comes down to their picture. Would I strike up a conversation with this person while in line at the grocery store? Would I want to have lunch with this person? Do they look 'nice'. Yes, I know...pretty random but at least I voted.
I was somewhat surprised to find a bud of mine that I worked with back in my Starbucks days running for Secretary of State. He was great to work with and had a good work ethic so he got my vote as well as a email saying 'Good for you for getting involved'. I do have strong political opinions, just not the kahonas to put myself out there to run for an office. Besides...those nasty skeletons really do need to stay in the closet.
The actual election will be more interesting. The city and county both have a number of intitiatives that will drive up taxes. Kind of a dumb thing to be trying to get passed with the economy tanking.

But it's when the economy tanks that the cities and counties have the shortfalls. Quite the dilemma huh?
I vote NO on all tax increases too.
Grr on raising taxes.
Good for you on voting. We all need to get out there and do it.
Good for you for voting. I don't pay much attention to all the hoopla, but I review the politicians platforms right before the election and I always vote!
Sometimes the choices make it tough tho...LOL
good man brad--
i avoid politics. i could count the times i have voted on one hand.. it's a sin i know.
hope all's good for you out there--
I so enjoy politics. I love debating them and waving my flag. However, as much as I think I'd make a good politican, I agree skeletons aways come out.....someone might find out that I have slashed tires, flipped the bird and yell the f word at completely inappropriate times.
Here's my food for thought: Why don't normal decent people just run? Seriously are we all so utterly demoral that there is nasty dirt on us all? Or just the worst of us generally run for office?
Can we get an honest trustworthy politician please?
Brad? You run! I'd vote for you!!!
I like the whole thing of looking at the picture. Sometimes that's the only thing to do. Sounds so wrong, but right at the same time.
Ah, mail-in ballots. I remember those wonderful days!
I have my file folder open and collecting all the information before election day. I, too, take my right to vote extremely seriously and will not make any uninformed decisions at the ballot box. It is a responsibility that I take seriously.
Nice post. Be well, Brad.
I'm so non political. I don't trust anything anyone says and generally think they'll say anything they think we want to hear. I'm one of those very uninvolved people. I'm sorry. But I think guys like you who take the time and the responsibility seriously are great.
By the way, I've given you a love note on my blog. You can pick it up anytime you like.
How funny to find a friend of yours running. Reminds me of an article I saw last night on Military.com. It was written by one of J. McCain's fellow POW's and friends. It was titled "Why I won't vote for John McCain." Interesting read. Glad you got your voting out of the way. I have a much harder time voting on "property improvement" issues now that the money is actually coming out of my pocket. This year, we had to shell out 6 grand for a bond that will chip seal the roads around us, but not MY road...can't say I voted for that one.
That deleted comment was from me, somehow I managed to post the same comment twice...sorry..:)

Sometimes I'm just so confused about it all....the way things have changed in our country so drastically. There is NO middle class anymore. You either have it or you don't and those of us who don't work hard to make ends meet. I'm smart enough to realize that no ONE person or party can fix this in no ONE term of office. Scary, huh.
raise taxes or start a state income tax.. either way, they'll get us.
Congrats on voting. And thinking about it before you do.
Your reasons for picking the one to vote for are just about like mine. simple enough I think.
Are we related? ;)
