I made the Cannelloni last night (I forgot how messy and difficult those sucker are to stuff) and put it into bake. Jay's cousin Kaylor called a bit later and said he & the BF were going to stop by. He has a habit of 'stopping by' around dinner time. Bless him. He's the 'straightest' gay boy I know and doesn't do the domestic scene so his homemade meals are typically at our house when he wants one. As typical he was running about an hour late. I turned down the oven and tried to get dinner to hold. Unforunatly by the time they should up at 8:00 the pasta was a bit rubbery and the sauce more than a bit dried out. The stuffing was still good so we made a meal of that.
After dinner the pooch and I hit the lake. It may have been in the high 80*'s but someone forgot to tell Lake Washington. It's been a cool summer so the lake is still pretty cool. We didn't stay too long. Bear just wasn't that into it but I got some calories worked off. Below is a stolen internet pic of the lake near where I swim. I couldn't take the camera as I didn't want to leave it sitting on the beach while I swam. This would be the side of the lake just down the hill from our house. We can't see it from our place for all the trees. My office is on the far side of the lake, the hill you see on the right.
Interesting (to me) factoid: In 1700 there was a huge earthquake here. The hillside where my office is completely gave way and slide into the lake, forest and all. That forest still stands upright at the bottom of this very deep lake. The depth is one of the reasons it takes the lake almost all summer to warm up. The earthquake was part of Indian lore and also was registered by the Japanesse at the time due to the ensuing Tsunami/Tidal wave there. Recently there's been an effort to go down and harvest the trees down there. Apparently it's so cold down there it still make sense to get the wood after 300 years. Luckily the enviromentalist put the kybosh on that plan.
The hill on the left is Mercer Island (The land of rich people, but not too rich. Bill (Gates) didn't settle there) It also known as The Rock, because um, it's a rock. The whole lake was carved out by a glacier but even it couldn't wear down the rock that makes that island.
Got back to the house in time to snap the sunset pic. The boys were still there and they asked us to come out on thier boat tonight to take a run on the Duwamish River. It's the river that flows down the valley below us and empties into Elliot Bay in downtown. It should be fun and I'll take pics to post. It's pretty industrial in places as town grew up around it but there are a lot of cool, intersting nooks and crannies to explore.
We're starting to get more and more calls this morning complaining about A/C units not working. I've tried to work with a few of them asking if they have cool air coming from thier vents and explaining that most A/C units in this area arn't sized to keep you completely comfortable in 90* heat. We'll come out if you want us to, but I hate to have them waste the money for us to tell them thier units are working as they should. There's only so much they can do. It's only this warm a couple of days a year so it doesn't make sense to sell people big old hurking units they won't use most of the time.
I'm feeling a bit southern this morning, so Y'all have a great weekend!

Hi Brad. Thanks for visiting my blog. I've seen your name on several blogs that we both visit.
Now I understand the comment about furkids. Bear is beautiful. Is he a Golden? They do tug on our hearts, don't they? Especially when they're our only children, as Smokey is.
I love the shot of the lake too. I think I went boating on Lake Washinton once when I was visiting friends, but it's so long ago I don't completely remember.
Glad to finally "meet" you.
Howdy y'all!
I'm fixin' to burn up in this heat!
How's that for Southern for you? The interesting thing? I talk like that from time to time and if I am tired, pissed off, or really drunk, I even sound Texan.
Have fun on the boat tonight. Don't you love how we all flock to the water to cool off?
You're a good man for more reasons than one, but especially for holding dinner and telling people the truth about their ac instead of taking them for a ride.
Those pictures are awesome. They almost make me miss the WA state, but I just knocked myself across the head and I'm back to my senses.
What a neat post. Thank you Brad.
I would love to live by a lake. How wonderful is that? I don't cook anymore so I rely on my dad to cook me a good meal everyonce and awhile. Even when the boys were young, I never was a good cook and certainly not an adventurous cook. Your BF is lucky. I am anxious to see pics of where you live and play. I have never been there.
I found your blog from Hope4Grace and I love hearing about WA. I lived in Bellingham for almost 3 years. I couldn't take the winters and had to come back home.
I wondered about my air conditioning too when I lived there but got the same response you are getting. It was hard to get used to heat up there when you are from CA and expect high end air conditioning.
The picture of the lake is amazing.
Brad,
Here is what I use for music on my page: http://www.playlist.com/
You sweet thing. Let me hug your neck for thinking a little southern.
I have always been jealous (in a friendly sort of way) of your beautiful area! Now I'm livid!!! You have a lake down the hill from your house? Oh Brad...how wonderful that is. And I'll bet Da Bear just loves it!
Sorry, I'm having a Chicago moment...that explains Da Bear thing! But I'll wish you a lovely Suthin' evening.
Almost forgot...
RE: stuffing cannelloni...put the stuffing in a large ziplock baggie, twist the top down to let the air out and compact the stuffing into the bottom of the bag...cut off one of the bottom corners of the bag, just enough to use it like an icing bag...put the cut corner into the pasta shell and squeeze! Be gentle. It should work just fine. ;-)
This is a long article, but it's what got me hooked on Wired magazine. The pictures in the article were amazing. The article's really interesting...I hope you read it. It's about harvesting the underwater trees.

I'm sure you all were suffering in the heat. We only suffer like that when our AC is truly broken.
Love the beauty of your lake and your sunset picture. Wish I had a homecooked meal!
