Monday

I really feel sorry for the lady at Safeway who's soul job it seems to be to mind the shopping carts and round them up & bring them back to the store. How depressing to watch all of us stream out of the store leaving them willy nilly strewn about the parking lot (I'm a good boy and always return mine to the corral)

Kelly Jene and I had a three way with Val today. Get your mind out of the gutter it was an IM conversation. We had fun.

Jay & I took the bigs 'built ins' cabinets from the upstairs dressing room and installed then in the bathroom downs stairs today, I still have 3 tons of clothing to sort out up in the newly created bedroom.

One more vacation day to go then back to work for 3 days then another long holiday

I was just out on the front porch just now and a coyote went screaming through the top of the yard down to the woods on the south.

I won't be able to meet up with Kelly Jene and Roggie at Cannon Beach next weekend as there's just not enough time. Kelly Jene promised to go and say a prayer for my friend Jimmy at the south side of Haystack Rock.

I was there two years ago with a hand full of the Iris's he loved. Jimmy was the brother of my good friend Deanna - who I went to school with. Jimmy was the last friend I lost to AIDS. He was ill with it for many years before finally succumbing to it in 1995. We spread his ashes there just south of Haystack Rock. The last time I was there Bear & I had taken a walk out to the rock to spread the flowers for him. I was standing close to the rush of the tide and suddenly became aware of someone with me. I looked over my left shoulder to find a young couple with a baby in a stroller behind me - Mind you were about 100 yards from the shoreline. The couple was dressed oddly in what you'd expect to see a man & woman to be wearing in 1965. She in a polyester dress with a flower print, he in squarish glasses with black frames. They had a baby in a stroller and again the stroller was quite retro. I was a bit peeved as I was out there to be alone and talk to Jimmy. I felt annoyed as I turned my back on them and tossed my Iris's out into the ebbing tide. I ignored them, said a prayer and tossed the flowers. Not more that a minute could have passed. I turned round again and they were gone. If you know that stretch of beach you know there's no way to get away that fast. Jimmy and his parents I believe.

Between 1981 and 1995 many of my friends passed away from AIDS. I've often wondered why not me ? How Jay & I got so lucky I'll never know. It's a bit hard to live with. Kiss your lovers and hug your babies friends.

And I send you all a hug.

Haystack IS a very, very powerful and spiritual place, Brad. There is absolutely no denying that.

Jealous of the threesome---oh, sorry, three-way! :) Glad to hear you all had fun!

You are lucky, you are blessed...just as each one of us who are still alive today and every day are. I was reminded of that in the accident. It does not matter what takes you, that's for sure--in this day, it could be anything, and anything in an instant.

We all must keep the faith.

What a lovely post, Brad. Thank you for your thought-provoking words.

Be well.

How sad to have lost so many friends.
I got the chills reading about the couple you saw.

When I walk back with my cart, if there are any others near, I take them back too. :-)

That is a beautiful story. I don't know how ghosts or spirits or any of that works, but I know there is something beyond what we see. And sometimes it peeks through.

I am so very glad you and Jay are happy and healthy and friends of mine.

Hugs back.

Oh deep breath, big sigh. You bring forward the memories of lost friends. What saddens me so is that my own baby girl has experienced so much loss already and what can I say except it is the way of things and I grieve for her. Somehow we learn to celebrate.

Cannon Beach is enough to make me believe almost anything.

I'm sorry about your freind. AIDs took away some of my friends too. I'm glad that horridness has been lessened.

That was a great story to share with us. Too many people are gone because of AIDS. I'm so glad you're here.

Oh my gosh, that gave me chills. Years ago, when B was just a few weeks old, I took him with me to see the AIDS quilt laid out on the mall in DC. It was heartbreaking and breathtaking. I hugged him close that day.

What a beautiful and chilling story, Brad. Now I want to cry. Thank you for sharing it. I too, had a great friend, my best friend, die of that awful disease, back in the 80's. I wonder these days if he would or could have lived had he come down with it today, it seems (to me at least) that there has been serious progress along those lines recently. But perhaps I don't really know much - what do you think?

I hope your short work week is wonderful. Thinking of you. Hugs, Friend.
