I was over at my friend Ginni Dee's blog today and learned something new and I love to learn new stuff. She mentioned food grade diatomaceous earth. I read Ginni's info on it and sent myself an email so I would remember to tell Jay about it.
I got home tonight and looked it up on Wikipedia as a quick way to get a synopses in front of Jay. Unfortunately Wikipedia's version on it differs from Ginni's knowledge. But of course we all know that the corporate overlords wouldn't hire minions to edit Wikipedea post for profit or anything. Right?
It brought us to a conversation about what we are doing about mite control. Jay went to fetch his can of 'bird dust'.
It contains:
* Phenoxypheny Mythel
* Dichdicoalenthynal
* Diemethlcycolopropanecarboxylate
(Side note: I can't tell you, gentle reader, how hard it was for me to read those font .02 words of the side of the can. I've been struggling for 10 minutes)
Brad: Don't you think those chemicals are toxic? You apply them to the birds feather right?
Jay: Yeah but their eggs don't have anything to do with their digestive track.
Brad: --Blank stare-- But they absorb it through their skin.
Jay: No they don't.
Brad: How do you know?
Jay: It says so on the can.
Brad: And George W. Bush is good for the Department of Justice.
God Love him, I think I only have another 20 years of work on him to go.

Kudos on being able to read the fine print. Holy cow those are some long words!
I read up on your friends blog and that stuff definitely sounds like it's worth looking into! And definitely a better choice for your animals.
Big ol hugs for you!
20 is better than light years.
I searched out info on the dirt too! Interesting. Sounds like the right choice for your birds, but maybe not a team decision? You have to remember that the benefits of being a couple outweigh the frustrations. And you have time on your side. Maybe you could slip Jay a little dirt.
Ginni is a smart lady, I have known her for many years. I'm so glad you're getting to be friends. :)
Slowly but surely, that's the way for Jay & Clarke!
lovins,
fiwa
Just keep chipping away, Brad, that's all you can do!
Jess is working in a lab at FDA. She worked on an experiment testing a spray sunscreen that had nano-particles in it. Lots of things have these and they are highly advertised in big bright letters to attract buyers. They found that the sunscreen made this way absorbed through the skin and left red sores on the pancreas, bladder and livers of the mice. I'm just full of interesting information. :-)
