Partner's family is coming for the weekend.
Youngest brother and wife and nephew live in Fairbanks and are flying in on Saturday.
Partner's Mom & Dad live over an hour to the south. The airport is fifteen minutes from our place. Guess who is hosting ?
Result: They're staying here over the weekend. Plus more non-staying family members for dinner.
Don't get me wrong, I love them all. But where the frick too put them.
We've got 8 adults and 3 children for dinner and 6 adults and 1 child for overnight.
I have bed space for 7.
No problem. right ?
Yeah not so easy.
Options One:
My (ahem, OUR) bed upstairs is a king and sometimes seems small to us. This will be offered to Mom and Dad. Mom having had hip surgery this last fall and it being upstairs, this clearly won't work.
Option Two:
The inflatable bed on the living room floor. This would be asking my sister in law, a seven month pregnant woman to sleep on the floor with her two year old next to her.
Nix.
Option Three:
Double bed in the basement guest room: While the room is fine, you have to pass through the scary basement rooms to get to it. Nephew, Sis & Brother ? NOT - I wouldn't even let me nephew sleep down there.
Me, looks like the double bed downstairs is all mine !
That means Partner can sleep on the day bed in the alcove in the upstairs hall. We tried the downstairs bed together during a bad wind storm last year when we thought trees might come down. It ain't gonna work.
Mom & Dad? Fine, let them have our bed - I have a double booked in the basement.
Sis & Bro on the inflatable ? Let partner give up the day bed to sis in law and he can sleep with his brother.
You know this really isn't my problem.
My family always has the good sense to stay in hotels when visiting.
I have a bed claimed.
So there.
Confusing ? Yes, my brain hurts.

Oh dear, my brain hurts for you too. Just the thought of having in-laws in my house makes me break out into a cold sweat. Hmm... the two ladies do make it a bit difficult, getting more blow up beds doesn't really accomplish anything, does it? Gooooood luck. :)
You know... you could stay in a hotel... just thinking out loud.
Summer's comment has me laughing! Well, one way or another it will all work out and there should be a good story in it. Good luck!
summer is my new hero!
a house full of inlaws? fiwa, i am with you. the coldsweats, fo sho.
When I go to visit my fam, I offer to stay in a hotel but they will have no part in it.
Good luck to you and partner. You are going to have one heck of a full house.
Oh, and how could I forget this? I too live about fifteen minutes from the airport but I am south of it. I think you are north of it. I wonder how many times we have passed each other and never known it? Just thinking.
I found you by Cheryl and am very interested in reading more!
nice to read you kind sir!
Always,
Crusty~ :0)
